How Our New Wetland FilterBlox System Reduces Cleaning and Maintenance
If you've ever installed and maintained an Aquascape wetland filter in Australia, you'll know the process well. Installing layers of pebble, the initial backflush clean and the annual maintenance that comes with keeping the filter bed performing at its best.

We love our wetland filtration system. It's one of the most effective and natural ways to filter a pond, and it has been for years. But we're always looking at ways to make things better, and the new FilterBlox™ Module does exactly that.
Pebbles in Your Wetland Filter
Traditional wetland pond filters rely on layers of pebbles and river rock as their biological filter media, and it's a system that works beautifully. Gravel provides surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonise, and those bacteria break down the waste and nutrients in your pond water naturally and effectively.
Over time though, annual maintenance of the pebble bed is required. Debris accumulates, the annual backflush takes time and fresh water, and as builds get larger, so does the amount of pebble needed. It's a small trade off for such an effective filtration system, but we wanted to see if we could make it even easier.
New Wetland Technology: The FilterBlox™ Solution
Our new FilterBlox™ Module has been designed to replace the majority of pebbles and gravel as the filter media inside the wetland filter bed, taking an already great system and making it even more capable.

Rather than relying on rocks and gravel alone, the FilterBlox Module uses internal Biological Filter Tubes to provide 441% more surface area than a traditional gravel bed. That means more space for beneficial bacteria to colonise, more efficient breakdown of nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus, and an even healthier pond ecosystem overall.
And when it comes to installation and filter maintenance, the open structured media means a smaller wetland footprint is required, cleanouts are faster and less time consuming, and only a top layer of gravel for planting is needed.
FilterBlox Components

1. Internal Biological Filter Tubes Maximise surface area for unmatched biological filtration
2. Integrated Media Inside small AquaBlox® Water Storage Modules for optimised structure and modular interaction with other components
3. Stackable, Modular Units For custom filter capacity
4. Water Flow Channel Optimises cleaning and flow during filtration
5. Expanded Surface Area Over 5x more surface area than gravel and 2x more than BioBalls Biological Filter Media
What This Means for Pond Owners in Australia
-
Faster, easier pond filter maintenance with less mess
-
Even better water quality with less effort
-
A healthier, more balanced pond ecosystem year round
What This Means for Pond Installers and CACs
-
No need to source, transport and lay heavy pebbles inside the wetland filter bed
-
Quicker, cleaner pond builds
-
A pond filtration system that's genuinely easier to install, explain and maintain
Your Aquatic Plants Still Do Their Thing

Aquatic plants are still very much part of the wetland filter system and always will be. They play a vital role in absorbing nutrients and completing the natural filtration process. The FilterBlox Module simply does the heavy lifting underneath, so your plants can focus on what they do best.
Less Pebble. More Performance.
It's a meaningful step forward for our wetland pond filter system. Less weight, less mess, less maintenance and even better filtration performance across the board.
Whether you're a pond owner looking for a lower maintenance solution or a CAC planning your next build, we think you're going to love what FilterBlox brings to the system.
