Planting Waterlilies Made Easy: Tips to Get it Right
Waterlilies are a favourite among water gardeners for their vibrant colours and easy care. But to make sure they bloom beautifully, you need to avoid a few common mistakes. Whether you're planting them in a pond or an aquatic planter, here's how to do it right and without any fuss.
Get the Pot Size Right
The mistake many make is leaving their waterlilies in the small pots they come in. These pots don't give the plants enough room to grow. Instead, use a bigger aquatic planter - it's an easy fix that'll make your waterlilies look even prettier.
Give Them the Right Spot
Waterlilies love the sun, so find a sunny spot for them to grow. They need at least 6 hours of sunlight a day, but more is even better. Just make sure they don't get too hot - a bit of shade in the afternoon is okay.
By avoiding these simple mistakes and giving your waterlilies the right care, you'll be rewarded with beautiful blooms all season long. With a little bit of effort, you can turn your pond or container into a colourful oasis that you'll love to relax by.
How to plant a waterlily:
- Grab what you need: an aquatic planter pot, aquatic plant soil, and fertiliser.
- Fill the planting bag a quarter of the way with soil and add fertiliser if you're using it.
- Take the waterlily out of its old pot and put it in the bag. Fill any gaps with more soil.
- Add some big rocks on top to keep the soil in place and stop any curious fish from digging around.
- Put the bag in your pond at the right depth. The plant tag will tell you how deep it should go.
