EPDM Pond Liner Repair - Easy Steps & Products

EPDM makes for a great pond liner due to its durability. However, like anything, eventually you may need to perform repairs on your liner. Fortunately, EPDM pond liner is incredibly easy to repair, and the steps to do so are straightforward.

You don’t need to be a pond expert to perform a pond liner repair. With Aquascape Australia’s repair kits, you can do the job yourself quickly and easily!

In this blog, we cover simple steps for EPDM pond liner repair for both large and small holes.

How to Repair EPDM Pond Liner

How to Repair Small Holes

For small holes, you can choose to use pond liner repair tape. We stock the Firestone EPDM QuickSeam 7.5m Splice Tape Kit in our online store to make the repair process even easier. Our rubber pond liner repair kit allows you to quickly and simply join two or more EPDM liners together to create a professional seam, and fix holes and damage. This kit includes:

  • 1 x 75mm x 7.5m Seam/Splice Tape
  • 250mL QuickPrime Plus
  • 1 x Scrubber Pad
  • 1 x Patch Roller
  • 1 x Pair of Disposable Gloves

When it comes to repairing a small hole in your EPDM pond liner, follow the steps below:

  1. Wearing your Disposable Gloves, clean the area that needs to be repaired and remove any grime or dirt that may be present. This debris can get in the way of a smooth repair job, so it is important your liner is cleaned thoroughly.
  2. Cut off the section of QuickSeam Splice Tape needed for covering the hole. Make sure there is plenty of tape covering the hole on each side, and round the tape so that there are no corners that can easily be caught and accidentally lifted off.
  3. Apply QuickPrime Plus to the Scrubber Pad and scrub it onto the section of liner you will be repairing. Apply this primer evenly and thoroughly.
  4. Allow the QuickPrime Plus to sit until it is dry to the touch, then remove the backing paper for the tape and place the QuickSeam Splice Tape over the hole.
  5. Roll the Patch Roller over the patch and ensure there aren’t any bubbles present. This roller helps to evenly distribute the pressure and ensure the patch bonds to the liner.
  6. Your EPDM liner should be repaired! Let it dry thoroughly before reintroducing the rubber to water.

How to Repair Large Holes or Tears

If there is a large hole or tear in your EPDM pond liner, you may be able to fix it rather than needing to replace it. For larger holes, you will need to make a patch repair of the liner. At Aquascape Australia, we have a Firestone EPDM QuickSeam Pond Liner Patch Repair Kit to make your repair job simpler. This kit includes:

  • Two 6 x 6 QuickSeam Patches
  • 57mL Bottle of LVOC Primer
  • 1 x Scrubber Pad
  • 1 x Patch Roller
  • 1 x Pair of Disposable Gloves

When it comes to repairing a large hole or two in your EPDM pond liner, follow the steps below:

  1. Put on your Disposable Gloves, and select a QuickSeam patch, cut it down to the size you need to fix the hole, and round the patch.
  2. Clean the hole in the liner and the surrounds to ensure there is no dirt or algae present.
  3. Apply the LVOC Primer to the Scrubber Pad, and use this pad to apply the primer to both the patch and the liner. Apply evenly.
  4. Allow the LVOC Primer to sit until it is touch dry, then place the QuickSeam patch carefully over the area that needs to be patched up.
  5. Run the Patch Roller over the space where you have applied the QuickSeam patch to the pond liner. This helps to remove any air bubbles that may be present. The Patch Roller is important for even distribution of pressure.
  6. Your EPDM liner should be repaired! Let it dry thoroughly before reintroducing the rubber to water.
